CPC Training

There are two types of Driver CPC : Initial and Periodic

Driver Certificate of Professional Competence has 3 key objectives:

  • Improving road safety
  • To enhance existing drivers knowledge and skills
  • Ensuring new trainees obtain the correct knowledge and skills

Initial Driver CPC

The Initial CPC Qualification confirms that a driver has the required knowledge and skills to undertake the daily tasks and duties of a professional commercial HGV Driver.

There are two modules:

Case Study Test

A Case Study test in the form of a theory test , this is based on case studies and scenarios. You must pass at least 40 out of 50 correct answers. We provide you with online Theory Training here to practice.

Practical Demonstration Test

The Practical Demonstration Test. You must demonstrate the ability to ensure a vehicle and its load are both safe and secure. You train in a vehicle and take the test at a DSA Test Centre. Students who successfully pass all 4 modules will be awarded a DQC which must be kept on their person when driving professionally. Within 5 years and every 5 years thereafter, drivers will be required to undertake Periodic Driver CPC training.

Periodic Driver CPC

35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training must be completed by existing LGV professional drivers by 10th September 2014 and then every 5 years thereafter. Once you have completed 35 hours, you will then be awarded a Driver Qualification Card (DQC) which is valid until the 10th September 2019.
